Although Deportivo was very successful in the Copa del Rey, there was again no promotion (although there was a positive economic balance again for the first time in years). The club's period of success began in 1992 and eventually led to a national title in 2000 (with club top scorer Roy Makaay), winning the Copa del Rey (in 1995 and 2002), three times the Spanish Supercopa, a semi-final in the UEFA Champions League in 2004, two quarter-finals in the Champions League and a semi-final in the European Cup II. The tournament moved to Nottingham in 1995. In 2014 it finished in the quarterfinals, which is also their best result at this tournament. This was immediately followed by another promotion (2012), but also another relegation (2013), another promotion in 2014 and low rankings in the following three seasons. In 1990 promotion was almost a fact, but in the last play-off match it was CD Tenerife who earned promotion in Riazor after an earlier draw in the Canary Islands. On April 29, 2018, Deportivo was relegated to Segunda División A for the third time in seven years. In 2020, it was relegated to the third tier (Segunda División B) while in 2019 the club was one goal away from promotion to Primera División.
In February 2018, Clarence Seedorf was appointed coach of Deportivo. A week before, Deportivo had lost 2-0 at Real Madrid and at the end of February the Galicians lost 3-0 at FC Barcelona. Dutch striker Roy Makaay played for Deportivo from 1999 to 2003 and won the Golden Boot as Europe's top scorer in the 2002/03 season, after which he was sold to Bayern Munich. In a European context, Deportivo has played three matches against Dutch clubs. However, the team subsequently collapsed and coach Arsenio Iglesias returned as coach of Deportivo. In second place is Sunderland who lasted 68 years in a row. After securing their spot in the Primera División, Deportivo would go on to play a total of twenty consecutive seasons at the top level (a record in club history). The first major setback was the club's relegation to the Segunda División in 1945, but in 1950 it finished second in the Primera División and lost the title to Atlético Madrid on the last matchday.
The club surprisingly finished third in the Primera División in 1992/1993 and would finish in a high position almost every season until 2004. After 18 years, the return to the Primera División would finally be realized in 1991. In the years up to 1991 there would be a lot of promotions and relegations. In the 1950s, several foreign players came to Deportivo, including the Argentinians Corcuera and Oswaldo. Sneijder was seen as the playmaker at Inter and the defining force in midfield in his years at Milan. In that round, the team almost achieved another miracle after a 3-0 defeat at Leeds United, but the 2-0 home win proved too little. Militão scored, but a miracle failed to materialize and Firmino and van Dijk ended the evening with goals. On matchday 34, the home game against Tenerife was used by the Riazor Blues supporters group to distribute free Chupa Chups lollipops to the whole stadium and two goals from Claudio ensured a 2-0 win. One of those goals was the penalty kick in the game against Peru that ensured a 1-0 win. The relegation in 2020 is still a legal battle because of the irregularities surrounding the last game of the 2019/2020 season against Fuenlabrada.
The countries played against each other once: a friendly game that was played on May 8, 2002 in East Rutherford (United States). The club provided the top scorers of the Spanish league in 1993 (Bebeto with 29 goals), in 2002 (Diego Tristán with 21 goals) and in 2003 (Roy Makaay with 29 goals). He was also part of the squad for Euro 1996. Pedros made his debut for Les Bleus on July 28, 1993 in Caen, where he came on for Franck Sauzée after 84 minutes in a friendly against Russia (3-1 win). After the juniors, the players are ready to participate in the senior competitions. Famous players of the club are Bebeto, Rivaldo, Mauro Silva, Valerón, Lionel Scaloni, Diego Tristán, Djalminha, Fran, Donato, Pandiani and Albert Luque. From the fifth match day, the club took the lead and did not relinquish it. Deportivo then relegated three times from the highest level and in 2020 even to Segunda División B (the third level in Spain). Real Club Deportivo de La Coruña, SAD, commonly known as Deportivo or its abbreviation Depor, is a Spanish football club founded in 1906 and playing in the Primera División RFEF (Spanish third tier). Deportivo won 2-0 in Riazor, and PSV won 3-2 in Eindhoven, which was just enough for the Galicians to go through and achieve the miracle against AC Milan (El Milanazo).
